I am not sure I get this trade. Why not keep Cliff Lee and all the other pitchers they gave up? No one was better in the post season last year than Lee. The best Halliday can do is match Lee next year in the post season as he cannot exceed him. Something tells me that this deal is about Halliday willing to sign a long term deal and Lee wanting to play next year out. That is the only thing that makes sense to me
What would be interesting would be if Aumont went to the Blue Jays. Maybe the Jays are interested in the thought of a Canadian pitcher who might actually be interested in staying there long term.

But it sure seems like the Phils gave up a lot if all they get out of Lee in the end is a 3-month rental. Seems like he gave them a lot in that short period, not sure I'd be so willing to see it go.
I believe Lee wanted to go back to the AL, and Halladay preferred Philly. I guess it would seem like a wash for Philly (depends who they gave up), a huge gain for Seattle, and Toronto TDB depending on who they get. Seattle now becomes the clear favorite in the AL West and at the same time hurting their biggest rivals the Angels. With Lackey going to Boston this really puts the Angels in a hole. The new GM at Seattle is doing a heck of a job.

Jack Zduriencik is the Seattle GM and prior to that the Scouting Director for the Brewers where he did a great job building a contending team through the draft that included the likes of Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, Bill Hall, Corey Hart, JJ Hardy, Mat Gamel, Manny Parra, Yovani Gallardo, and others.

My son was drafted by Jack and the Brewers out of HS in 2003 and even though a non-signer Jack and his staff treated him with great respect, professionalism, and friendliness even after he decided to go to school and pass up the Brewers.

It really comes down to the fact that Halliday is apparently willing to sign at a discount and soon whereas Lee will do neither. Nowadays just knowing which agent is handling each guy will often tell you how protracted the negotiations will be and I think Halliday has let the Phils that is where he wants to be and Lee has made it clear he wants top dollar.
The word is Lee wants to test the free agent market next year. Hallady wants to play for a winner and doesn't care as much about free agency.

My dream was to have both for a year and win another World Series.

I have not seen Dominic Brown's name involved in the trade yet. I would be surprised if the Phils give up Brown. Their next top OF prospect, Taylor, would be easier for them to part with.

The Blue Jays will get three top Phillies prospects – pitcher Kyle Drabek, outfielder Michael Taylor and catcher Travis D’Arnaud. The Phillies will get two Seattle prospects, pitcher Phillippe Aumont and outfielder Tyson Gillies. And other names may surface when the deal is completed.
