Does a right handed pitcher need to come set before picking to first?

I was always taught the "tap and go" method in which you started to come set touch the ball in the glove and pick to first. Is this not legal anymore?

The pitching rules are not divided into right-handed and left-handed rules.

Pitchers do not have to come set prior to a pick off attempt. They have to come set prior to a pitch.(When pitching from the stretch)
