Pine Tar

Just a quick question...

I've noticed over the course of the season when watching MLB games on TV that the pine tar seems to be getting higher and higher and many players' bats.

That being said I was wondering if the rule has changed? Or if opposing managers or perhaps umpires themselves are just letting this go?

OBR: J/r and PBUC says more than 18" and it can't be used, but any play will be unaffected.

I think this rule became a moot point when the George Brett home run was allowed on protest after being called out for using an "illegal bat". It's more or less a rule that isn't a rule.

The rule has not changed and is in the book. I believe that Jimi is close on the application in MLB.

Since MLB over turned Tim McClellend on the call he made on the Brett pine tar bat, I assume the mechanic is to ignore the pine tar unless the other team complains and then just remove the bat....
