If hes not a 'quick recovery' guy you shouldn't really push him, this could cause arm problems. If i had to recommend anything it would be to run/sweat a lot after the day he throws. I wrote an article on starting pitchers in season workout, but you need to realize that pitchers in season workouts are very personalized and can vary. Overall, just make sure your son is in shape (cardio, plyos, throwing and weight lifting during the off season) and his recovery time should shorten the better shape he is in
Thanks for the response. How much he is "pushed" will will be up to his coach. His job is to be ready when called on. Although, I do believe he will eventually feel comfortable enough to talk with his coach about this and help the coach plan. Right now, he is in the mode to salute smartly and do what he is told. Still working on first impression. He's in great shape. He's just a smaller build kid. He's going to need all the help he can get this year.
