Twas the night before Pitchers and Catchers Report Day, and all throught the Park,

Not a creature was stirring (can't play ball in the dark),

The gloves were hung in the lockers with care, in hopes that the Pitchers and Catchers would soon be there,

Okay, I started this silly thread, but I can't remember the rest of the poem, nor can I ignore the pile of work on my desk any longer.

If anyone feels the creativity flowing, or perhaps has had too much java, feel free to carry on. (or you can all ignore it and fatally damage my self-esteem, causing untold mental anguish, unfortunately non-compensable in a conservative state like Virginia)

Tomorrow is the day. Be creative and make those Pitchers and Catchers Report Day cards today.

Nope, not in the slightest, except when they play the Yanks, THEN I'm a big fan . The historical perspective:

Years ago, the wise men looked to the east and saw a great star. They followed that star to a place of warmth, a place where elections were funny. They called it "Florida" and thought it would allow those heathen baseball players a warmer place to start their practice earlier. (true story: at one time, Charlottesville Va was the spring training home of a team, the Senators I believe)

The wise men decreed that whenever pitchers and catchers start to descend upon Florida, or Florida-west (Arizona), that day was to be "Pitchers and Catchers Report Day" throughout the land, cause for celebration and joy.

America's team, the Orioles, reports next week.

The Owners were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of ticket sales danced in their heads.
And Coach in his underarmor, and I in my cap, were so happy a 20 game winner had fallen into our lap.
When out on the dome there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see who was the batter..
Away to the window I flew like a flash, tore open the shutter, and heard such a crash.
The balls were a flyin' right out to the street, I had to know who was performing this feat.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but an image of "The Babe", in his hand was a beer.
He was wearing a smile, for he knew what he'd done, It was time to bring back what had made baseball fun.
He told me he could save baseball or was it just a dream, and he stated to name his All-Star team..

Now Gehrig! Now Williams!
Now Ernie now Hank,
On Mickey On Willie
On Brooks and Frank
To the top of the standings
To the top of the wall
Just swing away, swing away, swing away all....
