The pitchers glove may not be grey or white. So a black glove with a grey pocket is illegal for a pitcher.

As to the white in a manufacturers label is concerned you will have to check with your states interpretation. Pennsylvania says only a pitchers glove with a "substantive amount" of white stitching will be illegal....so manufacturers labels will be considered ok as per our state NFHS rules interpreter.....

I personally can not see how anyone can believe that a normal label with some white stitching could be distracting to a batter or be mimicking a baseball.......

This change was an improvement over last years multi color glove rule, but has still opened up a whole other area of interpretation.......I know of some states which are interpreting the rule as no white thread at all in a manufacturers logo..... seems a bit much to me...

I agree with piaa that it's hard to say that a miniscule amount of white stitching would be distracting to a batter. It appears, however, that here in New York we are going with the rule/interp that the glove for the pitcher must not have any white or gray.

That's right; no stitching, labels, logos or anything.

Our annual meeting with the area coaches is this morning. I'm sure there will be some serious eye rolling when they hear it.

I've never seen the white logo on a pitcher's glove as being a distraction either but the fact still remains that the NFHS says the white logo on a pitcher's glove makes the glove illegal. The following is taken directly from the rules section of the NFHS Web site.

SITUATION 3: With a runner on third, the defensive coach waits until the substitute pitcher has delivered a pitch for ball one to complain that the pitcher’s black and tan glove is illegal and wants a balk declared, thereby scoring his runner. The glove has a small amount of white thread in the manufacturer’s logo. RULING: The glove is illegal, not because it is multi-colored, but because of the white contained in the manufacturer’s logo. The pitcher must either replace the glove or darken the white threads in the logo with a dark pen that is not distracting. There is no additional penalty. (1-3-6, 6-2-1f,h Penalty)
