Hello to all. I have been reading a lot since finding this website 2 months ago. I have a son who is a h.s. freshman pitcher/ss who is interested in taking the steps necessary to play at the college level. He has always been one of the top players in our town, but has never had any pitching instruction. I haven't seen any posts asking about pitching instructors. We live in the Boston area and are interested in finding a coach to work with our son. Any recommendations?

Don't know my Massachusetts geography very well but you might find an NPA-certified instructor near Boston by looking here.

Steven Ellis - former Cubs pitcher who has his own website and who often advertises his book TuffCuff on this site - lives near that area (I think) and give lessons. You should be able to contact him through his site.

Disclaimer: Yes, I am biased on both accounts as I am NPA-certified and I am one of Steven's website admins. But I get nothing out of making these recommendations.

TRhit,

We are probably about 45 min-1hr from Holliston, just 5 miles north of Boston.

I've seen your posting on this website and wonder about your "not throwing enough" statement? My son suffered a fractured growth plate in his shoulder last summer, which the orthopedic labelled an overuse injury. As he was out of all sports for 3 month, we are trying to become mored educated about pitch counts, throwing, etc. Noticed the ASMI statement advising 3-4 months away from baseball each year. What are your thoughts?
I'm in Wellesley but not doing lessons this summer b/c I'm coaching our local 16U team. Some of the pitchers on my team have worked at Winning Pitchers, Doug Carrols Baseball Academy and Frozen Ropes in Framingham, MA -- all with mixed results. Depends on the instructor, in my opinion. There are also a bunch of Extra Innings throughout Mass. And the Strike Zone Academy in Danvers.

Good luck.
