I just received a letter from UNC that my son apparently participated in a pitching study. 629 pitchers from 83 colleges filled out the questionaire. This was the 1st year of the 3 year study. It hsome interesting facts.
95% of respondents didn't play another position.
Only 46.4% of 81% who played competetive BB outside their college team played summer collegiate ball.
77% regularly threw the CB, 52% the slider.
Most bagan CBs between 11-14 yoin practice and 11-16yo in games.
over 80% reported pitching in the last 12 months with tired arms. Over 50% with shoulder or arm pain. Over 60% took pain meds.
Over 10% reported problems with college od home activities due to this pain.
The elboe injuries was over 40%.Shoulder was 28.6%. arm 13.6%. Indicated a significant loss of playing time due to these injuries.
Only 1% played another NCAA sport..

A second questionaire is on its way soon. I wasn't aware he had participated in this study.
