I was umping a game of 11 and 12 year old boys and there was a play at the plate. runner on third and there's a past ball, catcher gets the ball and throws it to the pitcher who was covering, the pitcher dove for the ball at the same time the runner slid into home plate. the pitcher blocked the plate but didn't catch the ball and he unintentionally rolled over onto the base runner who never touched home yet, the pitcher finds the ball and tags the runner. i call the runner out and the coaches and parents on the runners team disagree and say he cant be out because he had no way of touching home plate. did i make the right call by calling him out?

Hey Nicholas welcome to the site. This is a great place to find all kinds of baseball information. We do have a forum dedicated to questions about the rules of the game a few forums down from this general items forum. If you post this there you will get the real umps who have a ton of knowledge and experience to give you an answer.

Personally I think you made the right call but I tend to typically be wrong.
