My wife and I had (and are having) the pleasure of spending some time with "Play Baseball" and her daughter as they come to our hometown to attend son and brother's baseball banquet. Coming in from the cold tundra of Illinois and spending some time at the "Fungo Farm" they are sure to enjoy the early spring here in Tennessee. They can bask in the early rays of sunshine and listen to the songbirds as they begin their early spring courtships. The budding dogwoods and the early blooming magnolias of the south are sure to signal the beginning of spring to our friends from the frozen north! Ahhh the joys of living in the south in the spring. BUT WAIT!!!! Frown TODAY'S FORECAST --- TEMPERATURES PLUMMETING INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS WITH THE INCOMING WINTER STORM THAT IS EXPECTED TO DUMP UP 8-13 INCHES OF SNOW HERE IN WEST TENNESSEE. The college announced yesterday that it has closed down and we have our fingers crossed that the banquet will proceed as planned.

Yes indeedy---sittin' here---staring out the windows all day----trying to understand that we are not snowbound in Minnesota (which I've been), or stuck in the snow in Wisconsin (which happened more than once---) but snowbound in TENNESSEE! There is something definitely wrong with this picture! .........

But!

I'm here to tell you that Fungo is neither "an old fogie" nor an "old-timer", but I absolutely regard him more highly than I could EVER have imagined. He is an absolute TREASURE. And so is his very dear wife. We are so blessed....and hope to be able to return his kindness.......

Oh my goodness Annette (play baseball), you visited me here in Minneapolis on the night of the tragic 35W bridge collapse, and now this storm during your visit with Fungo and his wife! Your fellow HSBBWebsters need to start putting out a WARMER welcome mat for you! Wink

Friends, if any of you ever get the chance to meet play baseball in person during her travels, don't pass it up. What a sweet and delightful person!

I'm BAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!

And now that I'm safely hundreds of miles away, let me tell you what Fungo is REALLY like!!!! Big Grin

Nah, I'll leave that to your imagination! Just let me suggest two words: Teddy and Bear.

Julie, you are too sweet. Who you really are describing is ....... YOU!!!!!!!

I sure wish I could meet ALL of you! This darn economy! Wait til next year!

Oh. Sorry. I got confused with the Cubs! But seriously, we'd love to meet you. If you are ever in or near Chicago, please let us know. And if your sons play the Kane County Cougars, let us know that, too, and we'll go watch them!

Y'all are too kind.... It was a VERY nice visit with Play Baseball and her beautiful daughter. We even took the 4X4 to town through the snow and picked up her ball playing son and his girlfriend, brought them to our house and fed them a bowl or two of deer chili --- I was surprised that they ate it! Bulldog, we got 10 inches of snow total and now the temps have dropped into the single digits now!!! Cold but pretty.

PS: the door is always open for an out of town webster.

Hey, I tried calling you earlier today! No answer, and I pretended to be one of my children and didn't leave a message! Big Grin

I'm sooooo sorry! I sure hope you weren't traveling through here!! Jaxon and Michael were here all weekend... who knows what I was doing.

Glad your travels were safe!

For a second there I was having a flashback of the Memphis / Ole Miss game we took in together.

Yep, I remember that cold evening in Memphis! Could it be that bad weather follows people around. If so, we need more visitors from Florida and California during the early spring!! Big Grin
Talk about a culture shock....Saturday, I was in the middle of the West Tennessee country--surrounded by the beauty of the white, glistening snow, the bare trees, the rolling hills (it truly reminded me of my former home in Wisconsin), the warmth of the Fungos.....and then yesterday, I drove my younger son to his job in downtown Chicago---surrounded by the dreariness of the gray, speckled white (from salt) pavement, the flat roads, the tall buildings, the CARS! even on a Sunday afternoon---and I thought--what the heck am I doing HERE????????

By the way, according to accuweather.com, the current temperature in Jackson is 14 degrees, in Chicago, it's 23---'course it doesn't account for the windchill......

And school is canceled AGAIN for the kids of Jackson.... my children HATE that they never get snow days......
