The weather was perfect! 72 degrees and a beautiful blue sky made for a perfect baseball day. The team looked a little rusty and the bats weren't great, but they worked hard. The first game was tough. We gave up 8 runs and then the boys pulled it together to tie the game. They ended up losing the first game 13 to 9. The second game was better with the boys settled down and playing defense. The bats were working and we won the game, 5-4.
My son did a good job at catcher, but struggled batting. His coaches have a list of things for him to work on, especially at the plate. The good news is the other team's coach gave him a huge compliment on his job blocking balls. He said he wished his catcher would work like that. He caught both games(5 innings each) and threw a runner out going to second. His coaches said he had some good throws but his teammates needed to help him out. He did get an inside the park home run off of a bad cut-off throw and scored from first off a single. As a catcher he usually has a courtesy runner, but his coach let him run the bases in these games. He loved that.
Sorry this got a little long. Mom bragging on son. Ya'll understand Wink

Go ahead and brag, thats what this is for! I love to hear all the great baseball stories. We have been playing for awhile here already. My son's team is 4-2-1 right now. They play today and really need this win. They are down right now, last year they started the season 10-0. Expectations were high for the start of the season. I believe they will pull it all together and do well.
Thanks to all you baseball moms for letting me brag. I posted a new topic about our games yesterday.
Pam thanks for the offer, but I think my son will have to stay in Oklahoma. Besides he is just an 8th grader. I hope you find a catcher. I understand how important that position is. Last night in our first game there were runners on 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out. My son caught, blocked or hustled every pitch to keep that runner from scoring. We were the visiting team and ahead by one run.

baseball down south,

My son's high school team made it to the State Championship game when he was a Jr. and they lost to a perennial powerhouse. Our team had 12 juniors that year so everyone was confident they would have a shot at winning the State title the next year when they were seniors.

My son's team started off their senior season at 5-0. Then they went to a tournament with very competitive out of state teams. During the next week, their record suddenly plummeted to 5-6. They hit rock bottom and the boys were very discouraged and upset. Three of the losses were 1-0 scores. The boys didn't like the feeling they were having because they were dubbed to win the state title and everyone in our town thought it was THEIR YEAR.

They did turn it around and ended finishing the season at 27-8 and WINNING the State Championship. It is still very early and you never know what can happen.
