I am curious as to why the ball is not dead when a defensive player catches a ball that leaves the field of play.
I get it when the player reaches over the fence to make a catch, but I just watched the Toronto catcher make a play where he caught a pop foul over the dugout and then fall over er the dugout rail into the dugout. Why is the ball still live? Why are not runnerson base awarded the same bases they would be if the ball rolled into or was thrown into the dugout?
Same question with plays like jeeter catching pop up along third base line and winding up completely in the stands?
