I was just wondering how many of you guys find yourself playing with the same injury everyday. My elbow is almost always killing me when I throw either from the outfield or the mound but I do it anyway to keep playing and keep the coach happy since as a freshman it would be easy for me to lose my starting varsity spot. Just wonder if anyone else does this and with what kind of injuries.

You know, what you might have is something that a good friend of mine was recently diagnosed with. He's a senior, but starting his sophomore year (and he's been pitching his whole life), his elbow started bothering him whenever pitched. It doesn't hurt with anything else, such as lifting weights and drumming, just strenuous work like pitching. He's a lefty, and his left elbow is the one that bothers him more. Well, he finally got it checked out about 2 months ago, and the orthopedist diagnosed him with bursa tendonitis. Haha.. I've never heard of it before, and apparently there's no cure. Oddly enough, after every game, he runs about a mile, and the pain goes away. That's the only thing that really helps it. He starts almost every game though, just as long as he runs afterwards, he's fine.

Yeah, dude playing with elbow pain is not something you should be doing. If you are worried about losing your starting varsity spot, just imagine messing up your elbow and NEVER getting to play again...

...just talk to your trainer and have him talk to your coach. If your coach isn't a jerk he will want you to get healthy.
okay, so like u guys said about it not being a good idea playing with a shoulder or arm injury, should that also stand for a torn ACL? i've had both my knees operated on and just tore my ACL again completely. Im about to get surgery soon and was just wondering whether or not i should be playing baseball with a complete tear. I play shortstop so I was unsure whether or not it's safe until after surgery.
Take it from a Pitcher who played with a torn labrum for 4 seasons, if you're hurt, stop and get healthy.

No matter what you think you might be giving up, or even if you think you're helping the team by playing when you are hurt, the longer you don't get it looked at the more damage you are going to do.

Look at it this way would you rather be able to play right now, or play when you're 30?

The reason Sandy Koufax retired was because he wanted to be able to live out a normal life with the use of both his arms.

If you're hurt, take the time now while you are YOUNG and get treatment. The older you get the harder it is to come back from injury.

Every Coach knows that players get hurt, it's a part of the game, especially if you don't take care of yourself.
I think futurecatcher brings up a good point..

When INJURED, you should rest. When HURT, I think you've got to judge it for yourself. I think there is a difference between those two words and their meanings. I've played hurt and/or sore my entire career basically. That's part of the game. I've only played injured twice and those were both in football games where I was told I wasn't going to make the injury any worse by playing.

Baseball you worry about your arm. If it hurts, you need to pay attention to it. Maybe it's sore. Maybe it's worse than that. Our coach puts it this way: When that arm goes, you're done. There's only a few DH positions out there.

If I were to stop every time something hurt, I'd never play. I'm a catcher. If I'm not hurting at the end of the game, I probably did not do a very good job.
