Good--let him think he will have an easy go of it. Their offense certainly did not impress me when i saw them play Northside Prep. In my opinion, we are a bit stronger up and down the lineup . Our hitters will be prepared ..thats for sure . We have faced everyones ace all year --Roberts , Rudy , Plese , Siversten to name a few. I would like to think their team will have to worry about us --not the other way around . One player alone does not win games .

At UIC Les Miller Field it was Young (28-4) getting the Win in the Regional Championship Game over St. Ignatius, 2-1.

Ignatius scored one run in the first inning. But Young came back to score two runs in the third inning.

Jack Cinamon was the winning pitcher and also hit a Triple which scored the first run for Young. Vallmer Jordan with the RBI. Joe Frahm also singled in the inning and then scored on a RBI single off of the bat of Troy White which broke the tie.

Young scored 2 Runs on 5 Hits.

Hold on there NoFrank--I said nothing negative and your little insecurities are beginning to show. I honestly believe that Leyden will score more often on ND than you will on Weaver. Mea Culpa for an honest (and accurate opinion).

Oh, and Sulty. . . we handled Evanston just fine. We didnt give up a hit until the 7th and gave their ace pitcher his first loss. I do apprecite your concern, however.
Prairie Ridge 8
Woodstock 4

PR boys had a great day defensively. Timely hitting did the job. Swank pitched 6 1/3 innings...Martini closed. Swank hit 5 or 6 guys. His command was a little off today...but very effective nonetheless.

CL South 7

Jacobs 1

Sean wilson Danny Walsh had homeruns...I heard they hit very well as a team. Sets up nice game on Thursday. How do two teams less than 10 minutes apart have to travel an hour plus to play ?
Weaver was obviously very good but not dominating . The 6 or 7 scouts behind the plate had him at 88-90 for most of the game . I believe he had somewhere around 7 -8 K's . Leydens defense made most of their plays while we had a bunch of defensive miscues that cost us dearly . When we started to get to him in the 3rd inning im sure he realized he had a game on his hands even though the final score really wouldnt indicate that.
After this past week or so I have come to the conclusion that Prairie Ridge will AT LEAST make it to the final four, if not winning the state title altogether. Swank pitched today for the regional title, and he gave up only 3 hits, and guess what.. he wasn't on his game. When he is on, he can shut down anybody in his path. Him, along with Heesch, are one of the best one-two combos I have seen in the state playoffs in a long time. The only better one I can think of is the Ridge in 2005, with lefty Rick Zagone (Mizzou) and righty Andy Deain (NIU, but we can only dream what would of happened since Andy got hurt. The Wolves offense, led by Martini and Swank, is lethal, and they have a great supporting cast. Plus, they will probably only use four pitchers throughout state, Swank and Heesch, and Martini, now the closer, and either lefty Sam Zagone (Rick's brother), or right Don Baran. Here's my prediction: The Prairie Ridge Wolves will win the Class 4A State Championship.

Thanks, I think...
Rita lost, they seem to be falling apart toward the end of the year. I think they held back on their pitching too, not sure why teams continue to do this. Threw 2 sophs and a freshman. They have a very good senior and junior that have a little more experience in those situations.

Brother Rice, Nequa, Prairie Ridge are all very very good. Mt. Carmel has an easier road ahead of them. Lincoln Way East continues to be a dark horse type team that not many predicted would be this good, but they have a ton of solid players on that team. Lincoln Way-Nequa is going to be a great game, i just think Kroll is too tough. And St. Charles North might just quietly keep winning, they also have great pitching.

It shouldnt really matter to you what i think ..you guys won and you pitched an excellent ballgame..congratulations . You dont have to be dominating every time out to win games. Maybe im just giving some of our guys credit for putting the ball in play and not K-ing more than we did. Im just dissappointed our guys didnt have better quality at bats and make you work harder than you did for the win. You move the ball around the zone nicely and change speeds when you need to ---put that with your 90 mph fastball and im sure you will be pitching for many more years .
Ohh, I had to work plenty hard for it. Your son has some of the quickest hands I have faced this year. He is already good and will only be better.

I definitely didn't feel like I had my A game today though. For the first time in my life my coach had me throw a bullpen in between starts, so my arm wasn't as fresh as I would have liked it to be.

No way would I be talking like that at this point!

Swank to me hasn't had his good stuff the last two times out. He needs to pick it up or PR will be done on Thursday. Big decision is to start Swank or Heesch against South. I favor Swank because South has so many right handed hiitters in their line-up. Then Heesch throws Saturday and Swank can come back on three days rest Monday and all hands on deck if he has any struggles. Martini may end up pitching in a big situation on Monday because Swank doesn't seem to want the ball on three days rest from what I hear. Which frankly is kind of disappointing for this time of year. It should be " give me the ball coach and I will get us where we need to be."

PR is clicking with the defense and the offense right now. But some fire needs to be built under Swank to seize his opportunity for his teams and personal goals. That being said...Swank is in a class by himself when he wants to be. But I wouldn't be so bold just yet. If we get to Monday...anything is possible with the line-up at PR. Our path is clearly easier to Joliet.
I agree that one the most important characteristics that a pitcher can have is the desire to take the ball when his team is playing a big game. Unfortunately, I have not seen a lot of that this year. Many platers seem to be extra careful in protecting their personal situation for getting a scholarship or getting drafted. In Swank's defense, I have to believe that he has the draft in the back of his mind. He would hate to go out with less than his best and have a bad outing. It could cost him much more than just getting knocked out of the tournament. And the bottom line is, nobody is going to look out for his future more than him or his family.
Roy...Please be more responsible in information that you give out on this board. You are in an interesting position in that you have access to more info than the average fan and it is not in the best interests of your son's program to question the heart of a player on a public forum. He is an excellent pitcher with an excellent future. Whoever starts on Thursday, I wish them the best of luck.
First, I am not that close to the situation. I just didn't know where you were going, you speak about the most important desire a pitcher must posses and then you speak about him not wanting the ball and then you speak about the draft. Huh?

TJ wasn't sharp Saturday, that had nothing to do with protecting his arm or the draft. For what ever reason there was a lesser confident man the the pitcher we faced in late march. I have been fortunate (unfortunate for my players)enough to see TJ on his better day. To me he gets the ball when he is ready, reality being what it is, you just can't simulate that arm slot in practice, so hitters can't put together an approach until they stand in the box. ADD to it arm side run (sink when he stays behind it), a slider and change. My point being, pretty difficult task, at least the first time through the line up. However, if TJ doesn't minimize the Free b's (BB, HBP, WP) offensively you may not have to out hit PR to stay in the game.

As a head coach who has been a post season run before, I can say this, you don't get to Saturday without thursday. Thursday I go with my hottest pitcher period. this gives my number 2 a chance to throw some light (touch feel)Bullpens along the way and sharpen things up.
playball2. I can only respond to the information that is in front of me. You describe an entirely different issue, mechanics and confidence, than Roy did (desire). Roy said that someone needed to light a fire underneath him. I was only trying to understand why there may be a perceived desire issue. Your perspective on why TJ is struggling has nothing to do with the draft or wanting the ball, etc. If you are accurate in your depiction of the situation, of course my previous comments are off target.
Weave..

Great job to you, your team mates and the Leyden staff

I'm an old Schiller Parker then moving to Franklin Park and played for Leyden when the 2 teams where after each other.

Our son and family are looking forward in meeting with you and your family down in Normal IL in fall with Heartland.

All the best.
Keep the run going to sate.
Your a true winner.

I agree with you. Everybody is intitled to an opinion. But the last thing players and parents need to read on this web site is negative infomation. From what Hobbs has reported in the last 2 weeks on a few players is negative. Worry about your own and leave the others alone. Let these guys play and respect the game on and off the field.
