I have seen some talk on this forum that some Conference Champions are getting a spot in the regionals and Conference tournament champions are receiving the other spot (like last year) while some conferences are just awarding the tournament champion and runner-up the regional spots. Does anyone know which conferences are using which format or where you can find out the info???

I can't speak for the other conferences, but 4A North Conference 22 is determining who goes to regionals by having every team (6) play in the conference tournament. The top two advance to the regional tournament.
You'll probably have to check with the AD of your school. He should know what the conference the school is in is doing.

+1 for 3A East Conference 28. I may be wrong, but my understanding was that the conference tournament format would be the norm and that Conference "champion" was for pride & conference tournament seeding. First year for all of this, so not sure who has perfect information. Conference 28 is interesting in that many of the schools don't even play each other during the regular season.
Yes, that is the major difference from the previous format. In the old district format the regular season champion secured the #1 seed and was guaranteed a regional berth no matter how they did in the district tournament. Not sure how other districts did it, but in the Battlefield only the top 4 teams (out of 8) qualified for the district tournament. Then depending on the rotation, the district could send 2 teams to regionals or three.
In 2012, three teams finished tied for 1st place in the Battlefield - King George, Caroline and Eastern View. None of the teams were guaranteed a regional berth. Tournament seedings were decided by their head-to-head records. The regional placings were decided in the district tournament. That year the district tournament winner took home two trophies - regular season champ and tournament champ.
I don't know that I like the idea of not playing your conference rivals during the regular season. Doesn't seem right to me.
Great topic! The issue of conference teams not playing each other during the regular season is simply a product of geography. Some of the teams in the 3A East Conf 28 are 2 hours apart. Unfortunately the top 2 teams in that conference (Loudoun Valley and William Monroe) don't play each other in the regular season.
The playoff format isn't consistent across conferences and VHSL's website is basically useless unless you are looking for info from 5 years ago. It's tough to even figure out conference standings much less the playoff format.
So is it the top 2 teams in each conference go on to the Regionals, however each conference chooses them?

Yes. I believe that's correct.

Yes.
There are 4 Conferences per Region. There are two regions (North and South, or East and West) per classification.
Therefore, 8 teams make each regional, and the top two go to the state tournament. The state "tournament" is now essentially just a final four.
Top 4 teams in the old Concorde conference qualify for the regionals, where the top 2 before the conference tournament automatically qualify. In the case of C5/6A-N (Concorde), Oakton and Chantilly finished 1-2 and qualified for the regionals. Two more spots available, and go to the winners of the 3-6 matchup and the 4-5 matchup.

How many make the regional tournament for the 6A North????? 16?
Yes.
Yes.
Example number 138 as to why this realignment is a joke.
There are 26 schools in the 6A North, and 16 make the REGIONAL!?!?!? The thing I dislike the most is that every conference and every region, in every classification, can do things they way they see fit. Therefore there is no uniformity. Interesting when the entire realignment was proposed to make things more "fair".
Just like the government...let Big Brother call the shots in the name of fairness, and what you get is the opposite. Nice job!
