My boy is playing for an 11U travel team this coming year. We are getting him a knew bat but cant decide. He is a great contact hitter but not much for power. We narrowed it down to three bats. 2011 Easton Rival -10 30/20 2 3/4 V12 Aluminum, 2011 VooDoo -9 30/21 2 5/8 half&half , 2010 Stealth Speed -10 30/20 2 5/8 composite. Would love to hear your opinion on the BATS.

31" drop 9 bats seems mighty large for 11 y/o travel. Year after year there are several very strong 11 & 12 Utrip Majors teams from my area, & one will seldom see a player with a 31" big barrel bat before his 13U travel season... even the 12 y/o man-childs.

At 11, my youngest was average size on his team at 5-2 108lbs. 29"-8.5 oz Exo was bat of choice. went to 30" Exo at 12, basically same deal as other strong hitters on his team (with the smaller 12's staying w their 29's). When 11 y/o's can hit a ball 290' on the fly, & step in & drive it out opposite field, not much reason to go to longer heavier game bat. At any age bat speed is at a premium. During 11's & 12's for cage work, our boys used 29 & 30" $30 maple bats. Nothing fancy, they'd weigh in at 24-25 oz & seemed to hold up much better than the $22 Ash LL Sluggers.

Our 13's started to see a few of the Stealth Speeds, this last Spring, but most were all drop 3's & are now banned for school ball use. One of our late season roster adds had a drop -9 Speed, but he had a bunch of hits with my boys CF4. Know little about the SR league (-9) Voodoo's. Lot of local 13's were swinging the 2009 version of the -3 Voodoo... but that particular bat seems to lose its pop after several months of heavy use.

Instead of swinging -10's in a longer length, the drop 8.5 EXO's & the gold CF4's (marked drop 8 but actually drop 7) seem to have been hottest big barrel bats our 13's used last season. Both the EXO & the CF4 are slightly big end weighted. The one thing my son liked about his 31-24 CF4 is it had a ton of pop & it never seemed to lose that pop. Negative is, like any full composite barrel they scratch & chip up easy esp if any of your park's have a small gravel apron area where bat is tossed. Youngest had the NYSC games on MLB last weekend, & seemed both bats were well used by all lineups.

Mention the durability issue as son's previous year 30-21.5 Exo flat spotted in a few spots, all from game play within 60 games. At 10 & 11, he never had same problem with same model 29" Exo's. Can only credit that to simple physics, pitched ball was coming in faster & swing was every bit as quick, so eventually damage appeared. Not to confuse things, but he's back swinging an EXO now, just a -3.
