That Greek dude knew his stuff:

"Good fortune will elevate even petty minds, and give them the appearance of a certain greatness and stateliness, as from their high place they look down upon the world; but the truly noble and resolved spirit raises itself, and becomes more conspicuous in times of disaster and ill fortune."

That dude was smart IMO.

You spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. ~Jim Bouton, Ball Four, 1970

Smile Can't believe I've been back here 3 months today. You gotta love it ! A lot can happen in three months. Many here are very intelligent and definitely read between the lines and do their research which I highly recommend before taking posture or delivering information wire here. Many great people have arisen from the ashes of the worst kind except for maybe in Salem a few centuries back. I love this country even with tornadoes and hurricanes swirling around me and feel partially vendicated and if tornadoe sweeps my wife and I away any minute now, I know where I'm going and who I'll see when I get there, and this is comforting. I hope all out there have this peace that passes understanding. peace,Shep

Can't believe Ed Scott passed up on #44 up by his own submissions. Scott signed Hank Aaron to contract with Indianapolis Clowns and Dewey Griggs signed Hank Aaron to contract with Brewers shortly there-after. Clowns won the African-American League World Series in 1952.

Scouts Joseph "PaPa Joe" Cambria and Alex Pompez were better known as "Cuban Connection". However, Pompez also signed Willie McCovey and Willie Kirkland in addition to Orlando Cepeda, Juan Marichal, Jose Cardinal and Manny Mota. Wow !!!!!!
What a Most Excellent List ! Don't you think??

In Cooperstown HOF acceptance speech, Willie McCovey recognized Alex Pompez for his part in his success in the beginning of his career.

Played on field that Willie McCovey played on that is no longer playable in S.GA a while back that had a "deep right field" porch that Willie was said, (even by those still around in mid 80s), to have hit numerous tape measure homeruns in minor league play which got #44 promoted. Boston scout, Ed Scott, was said to have not liked Willie McCovey's opposite field power because of short porch in left-field at Boston Fenway park. Boy did #44 ever prove that misconception wrong ! peace, Shep
I believe when the EH was just a very young Lad.
That my Dad took my Brother and I to Tight Wad Hill.
That over looked Cheney Stadium in Tacoma.
Which by the Way my Father helped Build in the late 50's or early 60's not sure.
Anyway Tight Wad Hill was were everybody that did not want to pay, Could sit out of the Stadium on the Right field side and look over the fence to watch the Game.

The Tacoma Giants Pacific Coast League AAA affiliate of the SF Giants at the time.
The Parent Club would come play exhibition Game's on the way back from a road trip.
Willie McCovey, Willie May's, and numerous other's would come to town.
Also I do Believe That McCovey played AAA ball There.

Cheney Stadium has a 435' Centerfield with a 40' wall, and Willie McCovey is one of only a very Few that ever hit it Over Straight away CF.

That's my Story, and I'm sticking to it. the EH
