I'm coming off a very successful sophomore season in which I batted .506 and was named First-Team All-County, and i would like to start contacting college coaches to get my name out there. I understand that I should include facts such as my pop time and 60 yard dash time. Since I have never been to a showcase yet (doing a Perfect Game in August) my pop and 60 time have never been measured. My high-school coach is timing me tomorrow so I can get a basis as to where I stand and what I should work on before the PG.

Should I include these number that my coach measures in my emails to coaches, or not because they are not from a neutral or validated source?
Thanks in advance

You seem like you write very well for a young player, so I would be honest in stating that the times in your correspondence were recorded by your high school coach and a number or Email address that he can be reached at to confirm or talk about the times. I would mention that you are going to such and such Perfect Game event in August and that updated pop time and 60 time info will of course be posted on their site a few weeks after the event. Coaches will appreciate that you state exactly who timed you and will try to contact your coach if they have questions.
2013 catcher - what did your coach get your pop time and 60 time in? Also, why is he just now getting the pop time instead of from the season?

I think three bagger has given you some good advice but I don't think matters in the grand scheme of things. Definitely be up front and honest that it came from your coach and never hide anything but until they actually lay eyes on you it won't matter much.

One thing I think you need to do in terms of recruiting is make a list of schools you want to attend (factor in academics as well). Contact them about what camps they offer, what showcases they are attending and ask how you can be seen by them. Then do these things and make sure they know who you are at these events. Walk up, shake their hand, remind them who you are and then go out and perform. If they are interested they will follow you and if not then you move onto the next one.

Lot of people make the mistake of not being proactive enough when it comes to recruiting. They wait around hoping somebody sees them and they never do.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Coach- I had to postpone getting timed last weekend. I suspect I will have a half-way decent pop time as I've thrown a high percentage of runners out this season and constantly work on footwork, and my 60 was timed at a 6.84 by a friend last winter. My high school coach does not measure our 60 yard dash time or pop time as a part of our tryouts, he is only going to time me because I asked him.

And thanks that is all great advice! I am actually constructing a list of schools I am interested in as I type this and plan on sending out some e-mails later this week.
Due to constant conflicts my pop/60 time was just done today, which is okay because it allows me to still email coaches before my first real exposure event.

My best pop time was 1.90 and I was consistently 2.0 and below. My 60 was timed at 6.79 with much potential to go down with better running form. I'm taking the advice and just including who timed me and their contact info in the letters.

Do any of you have any tips on how to lower my pop and 60 times?
You are throwing a 1.9 and running a 6.7 60. The measureables are more than there. Continue to work on getting better because you never want to be satisfied with where you are. But the fact is its now simply about showing you can play. Having the tools that can be measured - Check. Showing you can put those tools to play at a high level - ? Thats what you need to focus on.
Thanks Redbird!

Coach May- My times in those fields have only made me hungrier to do better. As to putting my tools to use, I have been successful this summer against pretty good competition, but will really be tested next week in the PG 16U BCS tournament. I'm fortunate to have a summer coach that is very knowledgeable on recruiting and puts me in a good position to be noticed.
