Pop up on the IF and it's coming down right on an occupied base.

We had this tonight in a Legion game and our 1B made the catch as he was leaning back into the runner who had his foot on the bag. No violent contact or anything and the runner never lost contact with the bag.

What is the runner to do exactly?

What if the fielder had lost balance and knocked the runner off the bag and then tagged him?

Thanks guys - BTW we were playing under Fed rules.

Coach, first let's make sure we're all on the same page. Was this a pop up to the infield or an Infield Fly situation?

Second, "protected" means protected from being called out for interference with a batted ball, not from being tagged off the bag..

The runner is "protected" when standing on the bag during an IFF situation. He is not protected when standing on the bag in a non IFF pop fly situation.
