Just got a text that Portsmouth High School was moved up to Division 1 in baseball starting in 2012. Texter said Bedford, Hollis Brookline, Goffstown going up. Nothing in the news here on Seacoast. Unconfirmed.

That changes D2 big time.
According to a schedule on the NHIAA site (if I am reading it correctly) they may have applied to petition up but it won't be approved and accepted until a council meeting in the 27th of this month. After that approval it will be official and schools can start to schedule for the upcoming season. So it may be true that they are attempting to petition up for Baseball.

The reclassification timeline in the newsletter is for 2012/13 and 2013/14 years, not this 2011/2012 school year. After Oct. 27 approval teams may begin scheduling for Fall 2012-13, not this spring.
But I do suspect that maybe the committee is recommending certain teams adjust Divisions in 2012/2013. Goffstown, Portmouth and Bedford were the largest Division 2 schools so those seem to make sense. Hollis-Brookline being included doesn't make any sense unless their enrollment changed significantly. According to the enrollment numbers Con-Val is the next largest school.

That seems to make sense. The 4 schools over 1000 enrollment in the previous classification period were Portsmouth, Bedford, Goffstown and Con-Val.
Should be interesting to see what happens...

BAC is correct. These changes would be for the 2012-2013 school year. I think Milford may have passed Con-Val in enrollment, and is now over 1000. This is per the NHIAA web site, which may not be the most current figures used for the upcoming reclassifications.
Confirmed by a coach yesterday, Portsmouth is going up to D1 starting with 2013 season.
I just read an article in the Unionleader that said New Boston and Dunbarton might be leaving Goffstown AREA High School. That move could drop Goffstown's enrollment 300 students. These towns could pull out as soon as 2013. Does the possibility they don't continue to go to Goffstown AREA High School change if they are moving up to D1?
I've been told that the list that came out is incorrect. The numbers on that list were not for the baseball cut-offs. It is still a 1200 student population cut-off for D1, not 1000. As far as I am aware only Bedford is moving up after this schedule cycle is up. A lot can change between now and then though.

From what I heard in discussions, it doesn't figure to happen. Goffstown will most likely not lose the students of Dunbarton and New Boston.
On another note, I understand that there is a meeting Thursday that will help clear the confusion about who is going up to D1.

That is good to hear, it would be disappointing to see such a baseball powerhouse get dismantled.

Thanks for the info about who is moving up. It would be nice to see Goffstown and Portsmouth join Bedford in moving up. They all have the talent to be playing D1 year after year as Goffstown has proven in the past.

Hollis Brookline did not petition up to Div 1.
I just got the proposed classification of baseball schools for 2012-13/2-13-14 and Portsmouth and Goffstown are still in Div 2. Manchester West petition down to Div 2 giving Div 2 20 teams. I have the attachment just not sure how to post it in the forum??
