According to Mark Quirk in his Union Leader article, Ricky Holt took the loss after giving up the winning run in the 10th inning of a 2-1 Lebanon victory. The problem as I see it, Holt had pitched the 1st 9 innings of the game. Isn't that a violation of the NHIAA rules? Maybe someone could clear this up. Thanks.

From Seacoast Online...

it took three extra innings and a Herculean pitching performance, but somebody finally found the formula to beat the Portsmouth High School baseball team in the playoffs.

It's not a drink that went down easy.

The second-seeded and four-time defending state champion Clippers were knocked out of the Division II tournament by third-seeded Lebanon, 2-1, in 10 innings Thursday, in a crisply-pitched and crisply-played semifinal at Memorial Field.

Afterward, heads down and eyes red, the Clippers trudged out of their dugout and away from a Division II tournament that will still go on for another nine days — without them.

"I just invested way too much in this to have to go out like this," said senior Kyle DiCesare, who pitched the final inning and had one of his team's three hits.

LJ,

I have now read the article that you reference. Her's how the 10th started...

[I]Jacob Davis reached on a two-base error by third baseman Matt Feeney to lead off and Clint Goodwin took first base on a fielder's choice, with shortstop Billy Hartmann fielding a grounder in the hole but flipping too late to third trying to catch the lead runner. That ended the night for Holt, who'd allowed just four hits, and brought on DiCesare, who struck out the first batter he faced but couldn't make a play on Austin Pelletier's bunt, loading the bases with one out.

If Rick Holt gets that first out of the 10th, Portsmouth is in violation of the NHIAA policy that states no pitcher can pitch more than 9 innings. It also adds that one pitch does not constitute an inning.

I don't get it.
