My son is a 2014 LHP, who attended his first showcase in December 2011. He's a legitimate pitching prospect, and occasionally (rarely) plays a bit of 1B. He is an average defensive position player, but does not hit for power, and is slow (mid 7s 60). Very typical PO.
If he has a future in baseball, it will be as a pitcher.
My question is this: is it a better choice to skip the non-pitching components of future showcases? My gut tells me yes, as I don't think they would help his cause. We have a few showcases scheduled between now and the fall...is there an unforeseen downside to skipping the hitting, fielding and running events?
