Here are some comments quoted from the following thread:

"most money goes to pitchers and middle infielders"

"Most money seems to go up the middle-P, C, SS, CF. High quality pitchers get the most $$$."

"First Basemen are the Maytag Repair guys of college baseball. Many schools don't even recruit one, they just convert somebody else 3B or a P that can hit."

And one more quote from a different thread:

"Pitchers command the most dollars.
Up the middle commands the next (Catcher, short, second and center) then everyone else.
The exception of course is the guy batting 400+ or is a home run threat everytime he steps up to the plate."

This is so true. A couple years ago son was at a Area Code tryout. Solid RHP and excellent defensive 1B that dug out everything, launched himself after grounders, jumped in the air to snag overthrows and line drives, and then during BP hit 80% of his balls as line drives to the fence. While some said he'd make a good 3B, pitching had always meant that wasn't an option. There were also a few other infield-only guys trying out at 1B & 3B that fielded grounders like their shoes were tied together, missed several picks, and couldn't make an accurate throw to save their lives, but they absolutely launched bombs out of the park. Who was picked at 1B? The guys that launched bombs, including a few guys that couldn't make the cut defensively at 3B or catcher. The conclusion: the only tool needed to play 1B is a bat. I see this too in college ball.
