Congratulations. Why would a coach call a player's mother rather than telling the player?
Maybe he wasn't home or the coach couldn't reach him on his cell phone or something and the coach just passed the message along to the mom to pass on to him.
Congrats on call up. Making the big squad as a soph means there's a good shot as a future varsity regular..
The last few years in my son's baseball program, most players didn't make varsity until junior year. The team was so senior loaded that juniors had to play jv to stay sharp or continue to work for a varsity spot. However, I've heard just two seniors are returning (but we'll see when the newspaper comes out with the season varsity preview )so if that's true, varsity spots will be up for grabs by the underclassmen.

It went pretty well. At the very end of practice I got to throw my pen.I threw pretty well. It was by far the longest pen I've ever thrown. The catcher joked with our coach and said "Coach, he's in his 18th inning right now."
I'm very happy with how I did.
