OP - thanks for the feedback. Would elaborate on you mean here? Are you talking about changing speeds on the FB to affect hitters timing? Are you talking about 4-seam vs 2-seam? Are you talking about conserving energy?

Don't mean to hijack the thread. Just curious. Thread not all that active at this point anyway....

Rock Dad -- I can't speak for OP but I believe your assumption is correct. Pitchers at the higher levels change speeds on their fastballs -- not just 2-seam and 4-seam. This is also different from introduction of a good changeup, which seems to continue to be the most difficult pitch for college hitters. You've heard the team "BP fastball". Few HS kids throw BP fastballs....understandably so. For that matter, few HS coaches call changeups. We have had that discussion before. But...this may explain the differences on the radar guns.
