Is Shelby playing in the DFW area?

Brownwood HS is playing in a tournament this weekend in the Wichita Falls area.

94-95 from left side......Word is he will be a top 5 pick in June draft.

Keifer Nuncio-RH-Katy HS

92 FB......4 yr letterman signed with UT could go in top 6 rounds

Any word on how this kid is doing? He's the #1 ranked Junior in the country on PGCrosschecker.

Heard he is throwing very good. I would bet he will never see Rice!

How about Hoby Milner from Paschal and Colten Cain from Waxahachie? Both lefties throwing in the low to mid 90's.

Just wondering if they have a shot at the draft?

Hoby and Cain both do... both going to UT...

Cain was sitting 89-90 the other night and hit 92/93 periodically... stays healthy he will get enough to deter him from UT....

Diablo - were you manning the gun on cain? I understand someone at 92/93 early in the game then falling off to 89 later. I rarely see someone's fb moving around 4mph on a pitch by pitch basis. Usually more consistent. Curious about your experience - i.e. what you've seen.

Well, I saw someone tonight with a difference of 7mph at times between FB velo in the same inning. I would usually expect more consistency than that. I gotta watch more to see if that's the norm or not.

If a guy knows how to pitch, then this is what you will see all the time. No good pitcher wants to throw his fastball the same speed every time he throws one.

Pretty sure The Woodlands Junior Righty threw against Coppell Thursday night in the Woodlands 6-2 Victory. Scouting report?

He was clocked recently at 97.

He was 93-96mph last weekend in a 4 inning outing at an Austin area tournament.

OP - thanks for the feedback. Would elaborate on you mean here? Are you talking about changing speeds on the FB to affect hitters timing? Are you talking about 4-seam vs 2-seam? Are you talking about conserving energy?

Rock Dad -- I can't speak for OP but I believe your assumption is correct. Pitchers at the higher levels change speeds on their fastballs -- not just 2-seam and 4-seam. This is also different from introduction of a good changeup, which seems to continue to be the most difficult pitch for college hitters. You've heard the team "BP fastball". Few HS kids throw BP fastballs....understandably so. For that matter, few HS coaches call changeups. We have had that discussion before. But...this may explain the differences on the radar guns.

When I watch MLB games I've never noticed differences in FB velo that I attributed to the pitcher purposely changing speeds on the pitch. I'm gonna watch for that. I don't give the HS pitchers I've seen that much credit for intentionally changing speeds on the FB. I attribute it more to inconsistency in their delivery.
