My 2015 attended the Complete Showcase today at McKinney-Boyd HS.  Overall we were pleased with the showcase.  There were a lot of boys approx 100, but I feel with the amount of boys there they did have it running pretty smoothly.  We were evaluated by 2 coaches at the end of the showcase instead of 1.  I was disappointed in that there were several listed coaches that I do not believe were there today, but there were others not listed to be there that were there so all in all it was good.  There were 39 coaches in attendance.  Majority of the colleges were JUCO and D3.  Weather would not cooperate so we had to change venues several times which could have impacted the coaches slated to come.  Overall it was a great experience if for nothing more then to see where he stands against other kids now.  He did run the fastest 60 with a lighting speed of 6.44 and a 90 bat velocity. His first 60 attempt was 6.5 and then he dropped the 6.44 the second go around.  His Arm Velo was low because he was trying to place the ball and not just let it rip.  Both coach evals commented on this...so hopefully my son will finally listen to them that although accuracy is important they want to see what your arm can do.  At any rate we were pleased with the showcase as a whole.  We will be attending the UnderArmor showcase in a few weeks and will post on our opinion of that one as well.  Only time will tell I guess if it has been a good use of our money.

Good speed and swing speed.  As RJM said let it rip in a showcase.  Velo is all they care about until they know you throw hard then what you do with it and secondary pitches matter.  Personally I can tell you perfect game showcases where great and if your in the metroplex the MSL fall league is the best value you will ever have.  My son was offered by almost a dozen schools based on MSL.

Yes RJM and throw'n'bb's we have tried to tell him that and hopefully now that two separate coaches have said that to him he will let it.  It's so different in showcases/tryout scenarios. We talked to his Coach and he has a few suggestions we are going to try.  I have game footage of him ripping the ball and then I also have footage of him placing it so we are going to show him both and the dynamic difference between the two situations.  He benches 300 and is strong as an ox...but you put him in showcase scenarios and he has to much time to think about making the play.  Even his coaches will tell you he's the kid that when on autopilot is one of the best baseball players they know.  We did do MSL league this past fall and will hopefully get the opportunity to do it again this coming fall. It's been so much fun and it's amazing as a parent when you are able to sit back and just take it all in.  His hard work and dedication to the sport he loves is paying off.
