There are several "mock drafts" being thrown around right now by various publications. Here's a few of the names of players from Texas who are mentioned as First Rounders in various mocks:

Jamison Taillon, RHP, The Woodlands HS
The unanimous choice to be the top draft pick out of Texas. Mentioned in the Top 5 overall by most analysts.

Michael Choice, OF, UT-Arlington
Power hitting OF from Mansfield listed as high as #6 and as low as #10.

Brandon Workman, RHP, Texas
The big RHP from Bowie has shot up the charts after a slow start. Projected between #13 and #30.

Brett Eibner, RHP/OF, Arkansas
Athlete from The Woodlands is a first round target with raw athleticism and a fresh arm.

Chad Bettis, RHP, Texas Tech
The Red Raiders closer from Lubbock Monterey is projected on the low end of the first roudn.

Tyrell Jenkins, RHP, Henderson HS
Young, athletic RHP from East Texas is linked to the Yankees and Dodgers (who have both picked Texas prep players recently).

Zach Lee, RHP, McKinney HS
The LSU signee has signability questions and is a high-end talent, but has been mentioned in conversations by the Yankees.

Barret Loux, RHP, Texas A&M
The RHP from Houston Stratford had a great spring, answering questions as to how he'd bounce back from offseason surgery.

Chance Ruffin, RHP, Texas
The small statured Longhorns closer is drawing eerily close comparisions to Huston Street with his fearless demeanor and heavy doses of nasty sliders.

Yes, Burch Smith is second round talent per Baseball America's current publication.
There are several others with Texas roots listed as second through sixth.

2010-15-20 - I didn't see Syndergaard on BA's round 1-6 mock list but he may be on other lists.

Signability is the question?

It may not be with Zach, I really don't know. But the publications seem to somewhat 'stereotype' kids that dual sign with a large school in football because that have monetary leverage/backbone (4 year free-ride in football) to demand more htan slot money from the MLB team who drafts them. I'd say that both Zach and Tyrell have 'signability' issues from that standpoint or perspective.

i think the old kelly teams get credit for getting zach, lipka etc. when those guys were in middle school or something... showcase teams help players for sure, but i don't see much player development... usually see them take best players off everyone else's team which most anybody could have picked out...

but i'll give sam carpenter credit for michael choice.. he was raving about him and few would listen even though choice was seen by scouts/colleges and now he's a big-timer from mansfield and uta

Noah Syndergaard RHP Mansfield Legacy.

A baby at 17, huge and powerful. Knocks the heck out of the ball and has hit as high as 98 on the mound last I heard. He will sit low to mid 90's all game long. Scouts couldn't get enough of him!

2010-15-20 You were right! Looks like Noah was flying under the radar, no write-up in Baseball America or on the draft tracker but the scouts definitely had their eye on him - 1st round pick!
