I would have to stronger disagree with you on this one. Take a look at this link and let me know what you think. I do not know much about Dr. Rosenboom, but Dan Riley is the best that I know.

Hoss,
I know this is debate that could go on forever. But if you'll notice it is called "Specificity Theory". Many times I have heard, well you don't put a bar on your back and squat during a baseball or I've never seen anyone jump off boxes during a game because it only makes you better a jumping boxes. There is no doubt to get better at your sport you need to perform the sport. But to enhance your overall strength, explosiveness and everything that is involved in being an athlete you have to use a variety of training methods. Sprinters don't just run and football players don't just tackle each other, they each use a variety of methods to enhance their skills. There is no doubt we both could find studies which agree with either of our opinions. I am firm believer of olympic lifts, all of the athletes I train perform the olympic lifts. By far more athletes get hurt playing their sport than lifting weights. I have never in 15 years of coaching had an athlete injured in weightroom where they could not perform their sport. I do know that each University I mentioned do use the olympic lifts in their programs.
WTLifter,

One reason why Olympic Lifts are not strongly recommended for baseball players is because they take considerable more skill to perform than other lifts. Thus if not properly trained an athlete is at a very high risk for injuring himself while performing an Olympic lift. I would imagine you know how to train your athletes to perform the lifts properly and that is why you have not had many injuries. If you had high school baseball coaches supervising weight training class and part of the routine was doing all the various Olympic lifts I guarantee there would be a significant number of injuries. Don't get me wrong I think the explosive power required to do Olympic lifts is beneficial to baseball players but the risk of injury does not justify the return.

WtLifter ,
As you read my posts you will see one common pattern , I truly respect each persons opinion . I do not believe that Olympic Lifts are very beneficial for baseball players , especially pitchers , but if you or other people believe that they are good for baseball players and have seen good results , then I totally respect that .
Best Wishes ,
Kerry
