We just got a note from HS coach for interested players to register for Powerade State games to be held in Cary, NC in mid June if player is selected to be on a team of 20 from a regional tryout. Any info on this? tried to do a search and other state games came up but not this one. costs $15 to try out, so no harm done, but wondering about the State Games themselves. Long list of colleges and MLB scouts attending. Could be a great experience and opportunity for a 2017/

Do not miss the opportunity.  A lot of scouts in attendance, not just from NC... playing against and with the best competition in North Carolina.  The state is split up into Regions and each region is coached by a high school coach from within that region.  A lot of pride amongst the players and coaches...you are playing for something...not just "showcasing"...the scouts love to see players in that environment.  I coach a travel team and some of my players have played in the state games...talked to several D1 coaches and when I call them about a kid they will often say "I remember him from the State Games".

GREAT! thanks for the endorsement and info here. really appreciate it. I would imagine the competition to get a spot is fierce given they take 20 kids from each region. I went to the website and the list of college coaches and scouts in attendance last year was impressive. If it conflicts with son's travel team schedule, this may be the better event to attend? At the very least it sounds like he should register and attend the try out.

thanks again!

Yes, I would tryout for sure and most definitely a better event than a typical travel ball  showcase weekend...going to get in front of so many more scouts at one place...pretty sure there are workouts also in addition to the games but not 100% sure of that...now...if there would happen to be conflict with the World Wood Bat in Atlanta that might be a different story...highly doubt those two events conflict though.
