This topic may have already come across the board. I apologize for repeating it if so.

I'll preface this by stating that these players are all great. I know 2 of the 3 personally and they are fantastic kids. I've know both coaches for a very long time and consider both to be friends and great coaches.

But….

Whats up with 3 kids being named Player of the Year in the Central Region? Lowry, Childress, Boyle

And...

Whats up with 2 coaches being named Coach of the Year in the Central Region? Dragum and Hicks

All 3 players are very deserving and both coaches are very deserving! But does it possibly diminish the singularity of the honor of being named the POY if they are going to name 2 other kids? Isn't that what the "All Region Team" is for?

A friend of mine summed it up. Its high school sports, which means everyones a winner!

And to add a little curve ball to the equation, the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Virginia is not listed as 1 of the 3 POY in the region. Huh? Congrats to Nathan Kirby for that award. Quite an accomplishment.

No idea what the criteria is for these awards but sounds like they need to firm it up.
Interesting that only one of the coaches/players team is still active in the tournament.

Maybe they need a "Pitcher of the Year", Hitter of the Year" and "Defensive Player of the Year"

but like you say...thats what All region and All metro is for.

Is there an Metro Player of the Year named by the RTD? If so will be interesting to see how that goes
RTD's award will consider more players, including those from private schools, Goochland, Powhatan, etc.

While we're all focused on the Central Region teams, you might want to take note that Powhatan had the Jefferson District POY in Joe Manion, while Benedictine's Colton Konvica was VISAA Div. I POY.

Also the RTD considers playoff performances, which the district, regional and state awards do not.

Between that and the fact that different people make the decisions, you're bound to have overlap, also bound to have significant differences.
Of the 4 all District players who were eligible for all region player of the year 3 of them shared the honor. The one left off was Colton Gunn. Might as well have put him on as well, right?

Word on the street is that the collision he had with his 3rd basemen in the Cosby game during the regional semis at the Diamond actually broke his jaw. That means he went on to pitch the remaining 3 or 4 innings in that game with a freaking broken jaw. If memory serves he also doubled later and went barrelling into 2B to beat the throw from LF.

That kid is a warrior. Period.
