There have been quite a few students I saw running around panicking this evening on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. We've been under a tornado warning for probably 30 minutes now and the sirens outside have gone off at least 3-4 times. That means Cape Girardeau county has apparently had one spotted.

Second one in less than a week here Wink
We're fine. So far. More to come. Power just came back on. We have a basement and had about 25 scared souls huddled in the darkness. Early reports say there are 8 students at Union University that are trapped in a dorm. Will update later. Thanks for your support and prayers.

It appears that Fungo's area was probably the worst hit with Union University taking a large part of that destruction. My daughter and I were at dinner when I heard it was hitting there and I did say a quick prayer for you and G, Fungo.

I awoke about 1:30 a.m. to horrible storms and tornado warnings. KY had eight deaths, but my area appears to be very mild compared to many of the areas in KY. Lots of power out here and two major thoroughfares closed which made getting to work interesting.

Prayers for all those seriously touched by these terrible storms.
My husband was at the Hickory Ridge Mall when the tornado stuck. It's the one where the Sear's store wall was knocked down. Thankfully he's ok...shaken and stirred...his car windows exploded and other (car) body damage. One of his employees car had a huge chunk of debris/bldg? land squarely on the roof totally destroying his car. The whole mall is extensively damaged and will be closed indefinitely...as well as many other businesses in the area. Many people lost their jobs yesterday as well as their means of transportation.

We also have friends at Union University who survived with nothing but the pajamas they where wearing when they went into the bathroom for shelter.

One Fed Ex Airport Tower worker described numerous tornados appearing simultaneously...dropping from the sky every where.

My husband said there was no approaching "train" sound it just dropped down on them so fast no one had any time to do anything. After years of teasing me during weather alerts as I made the family sit in our basement in GA...last night when the second wave of tornado sirens went off HE went upstairs and got the teen boys to come downstairs and made everyone stay together until it was "safe". I wish we still had a basement instead of just a closet under the stairs Big Grin

Prayers for all who suffered loss.

Still learning,
wow, so glad that your husband made out ok. Keep us updated.

I am assuming that Fungo is ok and hoping just without electricity. Frown

The pictures after a tornado on TV look like when Andrew came through, I saw it and can relate but over such a widespread area is just unbeleivable and so many at one time. It is amazing more people were not killed, just amazing.
Thanks TPM and 55mom

TPM I was thinking the same thing about Andrew and even the more recent Wilma in the Plantation Florida area. I grew up in South Florida with the Hurricane drills (I still have family in South Fla and the Keys)...but like was mentioned before you have more time to prepare and leave if you want.

It will be a few weeks for many in the Hickory Hill area to get their power back on. A substation must be rebuilt from scratch and they have no heat with lows last night in the 20's and highs in the 40's today. When the storm struck Tues. we had a record high of 78 in the Memphis metro area and many of the kids at Union were in shorts and t-shirts....then the cold front came dropping tornados and temps into the 20s and all of their warm clothes, shoes and coats were scattered to the "four winds". The community was very helpful in gathering stuff together for them and providing shelter and food.
