We have our onfield BP we do at practice where we simulate different situations and where we want the ball thrown in each round. It usually takes more time than the alloted time for pre-game onfield BP.

Was wondering what some of you guys have as a routine for you onfield pre-game BP. Looking for ideas that will run 16-18 batters through in 30 minutes that has meaning and purpose. Any ideas would be appreciated.

This is basic, tweak it to your needs.
Put em in groups of 4. 3-4 bunts each they rotate around with their bats in their hand picking up the bunts. Now it's their turn to hit.
Get em over x2. (simulating man on
2nd less than 2 out).
Get em in x2 (simulating man on third with less than 2 outs)
Squeeze one or two.
Hit away x6 or 8 depending on how quickly your group can operate and your bp coach.

A different alternative than trojan skipper (I do like what he does though).

We let them go in order by grades. Seniors bat first, Juniors, then Sophomores and then finally the Freshmen. We will have one hitter, two behind the cage tracking pitches and working on trigger and the next guy that will be coming in is on bucket. This way every player will pull bucket duty.

First round - 2 bunts, 2 hit and runs, 2 hit behind / move the runner over and then 5 cuts

Second round - 1 bunt up third baseline and 5 cuts

Third round - 1 squeeze and 3 cuts

During BP we also work on baserunning. The last Freshman who hits will start as a baserunner on first and then cycles through until he hits. Then second round he starts at second and third round he starts at third to work on squeeze.

When they are on first and the hitter has the two bunts we have the runner make shoulder turns toward 2B if they see the bunt down. If they pop it up then they have to shoulder turn back to first. On the first hit and run they take off on the pitch and work on locating the ball.

Then from 2B they work on balls at them to right side so they can advance. Balls to their right they shoulder turn back to the bag.

From 3B they look for flyballs to tag and score on. Once they score then they go back to the field to shag or get groundballs / flyballs from coaches.

On the groundballs we have a screen set up at first and second to work on taking it across the IF to first and we can also work on turning all the double plays.

We get a lot and I mean a lot of stuff done during our BP and the kids have to pay attention.
It really is a very productive one but I can't take credit. The school's head coach I'm at now used to coach in college and apparantly this is how they did things when he was there. I thought I was pretty productive when I was in KY but it was nothing compared to what we do now. When I get another head coaching job I'm definately going to use this.
Used this as the basis of our pre-game bp yesterday and it went well. I am going to use it the rest of the year. Thanks.

PS...Here were the changes I made to fit what we do.

1st stayed the same.
2nd 3 slashes and 5 cuts
3rd 2 bunt&run, 2 two strike, and 3 cuts

We only have 12 on the team so we went in 3 groups of 4. One group hitting, one baserunning, and one shagging.
we have 15 players - use 3 groups of 5. last hitter baserunner on 1st.

round 1: sac runner to 2nd. sac runner to 3rd. drive in.
round 2: hit/run, hit behind, drive in
round 3: 6 cuts
(if time) round 4: 3 cuts

we have our starting infield in field while first group hits. all groundballs we turn 2 on. after 1st group outfielders play live off bat, infielders play off fungoes.
