I am interested in hearing some ideas about what you guys do before games to get ready to play. I am interested in BP routines, infield routines, form running, extra ground balls/fly balls in the outfield, etc. Anything would be helpful...I'm still trying to get used to having extra time before games to get work in rather than running around like a crazy person to get guys ready in a half hour for various reasons. If anyone has pregame schedules they use or complete routines, I would love that. Just for reference, we generally have 1 1/2 hours before away games and 2 hours before home games.

I feel like we waste too much time and don't do enough things to establish a solid build up to the game (as well as a bit of discipline that we lack right now). I would also be interested in throwing routines you all use to loosen and strengthen the arm. Even if you guys have infield routines, that would be awesome as well.

Lastly, what do you guys do after games? I've seen some teams run, some teams clean up and go home. Any thoughts? I should have asked these questions a month ago, but better late than never!

I am of no help on away games. We get on a bus within 30 minutes of school being let out.

Home games however we have 2 hrs to get ready. 3:00-3:20 we eat and goof off. Let them unwind from class and what not.

3:20-4:00 We hit in groups of 4. 2 groups shag, one group hits live, one group hits in the cage. Depending on the field, we will incorparate a lgiht base running with sitional hitting. I can prvide details if need be.

Also, during this time, if pitcher's need bullpen work they do this during this time or if I have a pitcher only that needs to get his running in.

4:00PM-4:20 stretch/ get arms loose. no program just go play catch.

4:20-4:30 kids play flip
4:30-4:45 Infield
4:45-5 other team takes infield and pre grame.
5:00 Play ball
Like TRhit we're not a HS team so we never get to take infield-outfield. We don't even get the field usually until 15 min before our game starts so we get there an hour early stretch-run-throw outside the fence then take some kind of hitting either soft toss or if we have room hit some pickle balls. Then when we do take the field we'll have the team in the outfield on our side an split into two groups. Outfielders deep and they relay to the second group in close which are the infielders. Then we hit to that group and so on.
Starting pitcher and catcher are to the side getting ready.

HS Team
245-315 travel to field (off campus) and get dressed and equipment set up. bases, balls, cage balls, helmets.
315-330 2 laps and active stretch. Play catch
330-345 IF Defense/OF and C Hit
345-400 OF and C Defense/ IF Hit
405-415 Pregame IF
415-430 In front of dugout swinging bats and watching other team take IF. 6 starts in OF after other teams OF round is done. 3 straight steals, 3 delays.
430 game time
What kind of team are you talking about? The prep for a high school team is different than a travel team. Travel teams often have limited access to facilities and sometimes no access to the field. The best way to avoid wasting time is having players understand what they're supposed to be doing so they go through the routine without much input.
