Madison @ Oakton Saturday afternoon, so that should tell us something. Madison topped SB with a late barrage last night. And Concorde District play starts next week: always entertaining.

Really looking forward to watching both of these teams play, especially Andy McGuire.

I'll go one further and bet that the NR champ comes out of ...

the Northern Region.

(heh)

Anyway, seems like a tough year to prognosticate. While the number of really outstanding/top shelf players seems lower, there's a seeming abundance of good quality players spread out over the region. That being said, I go w/Madison. For now.

I have only seen half of the top six teams. The main question I always have is who will be better at the end of May then the beginning of March. I am going to go with LB. Big fan of Rutherford, I think they have a lot of kids out and will perhaps get some back towards the end of the season. Winning is nice, knowing how to win is invaluable.

It appears the Robinson team is receiving very little respect locally in the DC area again this year. Today’s Washington Post - All Met Sports section does not rank them in the top ten, even though their only losses this year were in an Orlando, FL Sprint Break Tournament (two of the three losses by a single run) against very good teams. Apparently, they have had a few other rain-outs.

So far this Spring, Robinson has convincingly beaten West Springfield, Woodson, Marshall & Mclean, teams that typically make the Northern Region playoffs. Maybe this is an off year for those teams, but they have all been strong in the past.

Robinson, the winner of the Concord District title last year, was never ranked in the Washington Post top ten last year either, even though all five of the other teams in their district were ranked at one time or another. I remember Westfield, Centerville & Oakton all being ranked in the top ten during most of last Spring. To put it into perspective, Robinson beat every other team in their District during last year’s regular season and beat Centerville, Westfield & Herndon twice, including three District playoffs games. Not to compare last year's team to this years, with this years team looking a lot stronger with so many returning positional players.

At least the Northern region coaches are giving them respect, ranking them 2nd in the region behind Madison.  They start conference play next week with games against Centerville & Westfield.

Updated WaPo poll. Not much change, other a flip-flop between DeMatha and St. John's. Given St. John's big win over PVI, I'd think PVI will drop a bit. Can't disagree with Madison's ranking as the #1 NoVA team with LB right behind. You could debate the order of the next three VA schools: PVI, Flint Hill, and Oakton (all three within 5 minutes of each other).

From Northern VA Sports...

"Top 10 Polls: Once again, Madison remains as the top-ranked team in the most recent Northern Region baseball coaches top-10 poll, with Oakton ranked No. 2 this week, Lake Braddock No. 3, Centreville fourth and Robinson and Yorktown tied for fifth. In this week's Virginia Independent School Athletic Association's Division I Top-10, Paul VI is No. 2, Bishop Ireton of Alexandria is third and Flint Hill fifth."

And then there's the WaPo top 10, where Oakton falls out of the Top 10 due to the loss to Centreville earlier this week:
