It's pretty popular here in IL, I know a ton of kids that use them. From what I've heard from other parents and players-they do get a great turnout of college scouts and some pro's at most events. Of course they are a service so they will do a fairly positive write-up for any kid that goes to a showcase (you pay money and show up, they will try to make you sound as good as possible).
I think they can go a little overboard with their "rankings", but overall I've heard nothing but positive things. I also like (at least here in IL) that they will cover high school games and highlight players/report game action. So they are still publishing things during the HS season giving exposure for kids who may not even have signed up for a PBR event yet.
PBR was not around these parts when my son was being recruited. It was the Buckeye scout and the showcase that Walsh Jesuit puts on. So this is not from personal experience. The Buckeye Scout used to be THE recruiting/showcase for Ohio. They are gone now and PBR has really taken their place. I have heard several local coaches say they really like it. The only problem is that they say is coaches from outside the region can now compete with them, because PBR gives them access they did not have before to Video, stats etc,,.
Sounds to me like they are doing a good job.
I have nothing but respect for PBR in Ohio. My 2014 has been to several events and they seem to be the big dog in Ohio when it comes to showcases. They are well run and organized. They are a bit expesive IMO, bu then isn't every showcase .
2014 did their fall ball league / showcase last year and it was a bit loose in how it was run, however I see this year they have it all right. The issue last year was it was all inclusive, 5 weekends for a specific fee. and they have that this year as well, but this year you can go to single weekends for a for a separate fee per weekend but you don't have to do them all. Last year by 5th weekend, their were players they no longer came (not sure why other than injury to a couple) and therefore some were being played in wrong positions and some players switching teams. I must say they ahve corrected all of that (learn from the mistakes by opening up to single weekends) and have it together this year.
2014, also, attended top prospect showcase this summer. over 100 scouts /colleges there and very well worth it for my 2014.
I do get frustrated that as a paying customer of a showcase, I cannot see my own son's video they put on ther website unless I,also, subscribe to their monthly fee. I talked to the director and he gave me access for 30 days which was cool.
I will say kudos for the PBR-Missouri (the one I can attest to). Ethan Silverman (PBR-MO) helped promote my son and was there watching games and added news highlights of games OUTSIDE of showcases. He made sure if a kid did one of his showcases that he made the connection (BOLD in the news articles).
I do agree the subscription site is frustrating. I would hope the college coaces get free access.....
