Is a prep school for college considered an extension of HS or does it fall into a college format with the 5 to play 4 ruling? Have a player who is smaller in size and not really matured physicaly and mentaly for his age (17) 2012 grad. Grades are fair 2.6 gpa but will struggle with testing (act/sat).

At 5'9" 155lb is way short of fathers build 6'4" 240lbs. Has great arm for size, 86mph with quick bat and desent speed 6.9 (60yrd).

Looking for options to allow him to compete with kids his size and maturity, should of been a 2013 grad but parents didn't hold back when told too, now it seems he overlooked for his grade but would be a prospect as a 2013.

Any suggestions how to move foward, Thanks for the help.

I had a friend who had his son do this. He turned 18 in September of his PG year. It allowed him to repeat the junior year summer over again, and he added several MPH's to his fastball in the extra year. He went from being recruited by D3's to ending up at an Ivy league school. For him the another year was a good thing. Smile

Many parents have there kids do it another way, by having them repeat 8th grade by going to a parochial or private school.

And as others have also stated, the 5 year clock only starts when you attend college.

With all due respect, if someone who weighs 155 can throw 85 and run a 6.9, how physically immature can he be?

Your question is a good one, though. I think other threads on deferring college attendance have discussed not attending college with the class that you entered/(or left?) high school with. My recall of the rules posted by 3fglove was that it seemed like you could do a one year pg without affecting any eligibility, but beyond that, you started to consume your eligibility if you were involved in playing that game in any way shape or form. And that was true even if you weren't in school.

EDIT: here is the link to the prior thread I was thinking about. 3fingered glove quotes the rules.

How does a local Community College with no sports play into the equation, if the player was to graduate and then go into the summer season playing with the 2013's and enrolling in the local CC for cont. education and focusing on the individual training for baseball, and then starting college as a 2013 grad.

Just trying to think of all scenerio's
Thanks for all the responses thus far, keep them comming

Another question. If a good student, 4.36 GPA, 25 ACT as a sophomore, a year younger than all others in his grade. 6'0", 150, good bat. If he wanted to get that extra year to mature a bit more, he could do so without losing any college eligibility whatsoever? If it were at an academy with a PG year, and he took advantage of that extra year?
ILVBB already answered this question.
