Son is about to make second official visit to his top choice. He will likely get an offer and some time next week he will get pressure from that school plus his second choice. My question is I would like him to wait until he visits his third choice which isn't for 3 more weeks. How does he keep the first two schools at bay without them losing interest and going with other recruits?

I think you tell them your timeline and ask them if they can accomodate it. If they can't, then that becomes part of your decision making process ... is that third visit three weeks out at the top of your list and important enough to possibly put the other offer at risk? Temporarily eliminate the $$$ from your thought process and ask yourself ... based solely on the baseball program, academics, and location, if you got nothing else from either program other than acceptance into the school and a spot on the roster, which would you choose based just on academics and the program?

If the school three weeks out doesn't match up by qualitative measures, why wait? If it is a preferred selection and you're waiting to see the $$$ situation, give the 1st school the date you will be prepared to make a decision after your final visit and ask if they can wait. If they can't wait ... maybe ask the other school if they can move things up.

I agree with pbonesteele, first make sure that the 2 schools & your son are on the same page about timelines. If they are going to "move on" if they don't hear from him in a week, you need to know that asap! Then, if all schools are truly equal to your son and the offer is the deciding factor, have your son CALL the 3rd coach. Let him know that you have offers and ask how serious their interest is. You'll get a better feel for their intent and your son may get the last offer over the phone. Remember, coaches do this all the time, the good ones will level with you about their interest. Good luck! Smile
