Can those who have experienced this (players, parents, etc.) please flesh this out for us?

I am not sure what you want to know.

My perception, the higher the prospect, the more attention to the injury. My son is a pitcher and pitchers don't always feel great. Usually the little stuff is handled by the trainer.  Sometimes, depending on the severity  it will require a local milb team doctor to take a look and an xray and then maybe some PT before any MRI is taken if it is not serious. They only use the DL when the player cannot play, usually after a week and the DL is differnt for milb than it is for MLB.

My son had  recurring pain in his shoulder for 2 seasons before it was diagnosed as something that is not really common, cortacoid impingement.  It was diagnosed by a well known NY doctor not by the team doctor. The team follows the doctors rehab orders, always.

Son had a pretty well known agent who has pretty high profile ML players so his first phone call always went out to him for advice.  The team really wants you to see their team physician first, so that is what you have to do,  but you are allowed a second opinion.  Not sure son would have been able to really understand all the implications or problems or how to handle it all,  that arise when one gets hurt if not for his agent.

Excellent post.

If I have more specific questions, I'll resurrect the thred.

That is so true, many do not disclose injuries because that means they will not play and that means someone will take their place.

Unfortunately some will resort to things not allowed, but that is just the way it is.
