My nephew was approached by a pro scout this past weekend and was asked to attend their camp. My nephew told the scout that he was already scheduled to attend a PG showcase that same weekend. The pro scout told him that he would prefer that he attended his camp and that he had many college contacts he could help him with.

The way the scout talked it seemed as though the camp was free of charge and invitation only. Should my nephew make an effort to go to the pro camp and try to switch to a less appealing showcase event, or does this pro camp sound like something he could pass up?

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

I would tell the scout his dad wants him to attend the showcase. Scouts invite lots of players and very few get much attention. Most scouts do not want prospects locked into 4 year programs so if he is looking at 4 year programs go to the shoecase.
I agree that if he is a true draft prospect a pro camp is good but I think the showcase is the better bet.
Explain it to the scout and try to make the next one. They are free but they usually hold several. I assume he is a HS senior.
