Hello group,

What is the proper etiquette at a showcase tournament when you see a coach from a school of your interest. my son seen a college coach but was not sure if he could go talk to him or not..

Can you talk to him.

Can he talk to you

Can you ask Q&A about his school

Can you introduce yourself to him

or just let your Bat & glove do the talking.

thanks,

Why do you have your sons accomplishments listed under your post?  Are you hoping that some scout or coach will take notice here on the HSBBW?  I would abandon the info that you have posted.

If the coach liked what your son did and he wants to communicate with him he will, other than that, I would save the questions for another day.

I am a proud father of his accomplishments that is why I have it in my Sig. and email Sig. I 'm Networking and Marketing...If I didnt put that in my Sig. then how will you know about him...  just a proud dad .. I know it doesnt mean much to most.

So why to Doctors put MD after the name...?

Will all that said, he still needs to pass the eye test on the field...

thanks,

Joe

JH,

Thank you..its just knowing when to break the ice and start a convo with a school coach

of your interest if they are there at a game..

yeah at some tournaments it 42 teams x 15 -18 kids per team...

many kids can get lost in the soup.. unless you are throwing 90's plus...

*side note my son doesnt pitch.*

Thanks again.

jlaro - I get where you're coming from in that you're proud of your son because you should be but so is every other parent on this site.  If everyone put a resume of their kid on all their posts it would get very old trying to hunt through to find what the person is posting.

At the end of the day the "all" this or that doesn't matter because you never know the level of talent you're competing against.  Don't get me wrong they are great honors to be proud of but they don't mean a hill of beans in getting attention.  What matters is "do you have the talent to compete at whatever level?" and can you be seen by the right people

jlaro- I did take a look at the BeRecruited profile. The only piece of information listed there that may be beneficial is the short video clip you posted of your son's swing. I think the point TPM was trying to make was that all the accolades and statistics and awards are just noise. As a talent evaluator, I get tons of unsolicited emails and messages from people asking for a chance. Sifting through the "noise" is pretty time consuming. No one will recruit your son based on an online profile. I don't mean to sound harsh, but talent evaluators need to evaluate talent, not resumes.

Also, I'd like to point out that there are instances where I will be attending a game with other talent evaluators, and we will purposely steer clear of a particular parent or two because of their overbearing nature. I'm not saying you fall under this umbrella (I don't know you, I can't pass judgment on someone I don't know). But, know that it does exist and it's not a good thing.

+1 coach and JH.
My son would have been livid if he knew that I posted info about him on a message board.  Spend a bit of money at a good showcase and then use that evaluation to market the player.  Getting a good rating with reliable company can open lots of doors. Attend good tournaments where you will be seen.  Don't cheapen your players ability or talents advertising on a free message board site.
I think parents just have to calm down sometimes and educate themselves about the positive and negatives (do's and dont's) of recruiting.

This is where your money needs to go.  What cracks me up are the videos who have music, graphics and all that other crazy stuff.  Do people think that actually works?  BTW this a general statement not directed at you jlaro.

If your son (not you) wants to be noticed and play at the next level he needs the talent and be seen.  Going to PG events is what he needs to be doing.  This will help him not extraneous things that really serve no purpose.

I grew up in WV and although I've been gone from there for about 20 years now I still understand what the area is like.  Sadly, it's not a hotbed for baseball talent.  Yeah guys get drafted and succeed but not at the numbers of other states.  So your son is fighting an up hill battle already because if the talent is not there then the right people won't be there.  You have to get out of your area to be seen.  Going to Lexington (pretty good baseball there) and Atlanta (you'll see talent there) is how he's going to be seen.

Look we're not trying to mean or hateful so please don't take it that way.  We've seen this many times and we just want to help you maximize your opportunities for your son.

I'm not sure if you're trying to be sarcastic here because you don't appreciate whatever negative responses you think you may have gotten. If you interpreted this thread that way, I'm really sorry to hear that. There's some GREAT info here. Info I wish I would have had when I was coming up through the system. Info from people that have been through the system many times over and, in some instances, are still in the system - from the other side.

I'll bow out of this one. If you don't want to take the advice, no point in giving it. I think I can help, too. Oh well.

PIS is a contributor on this site.  Go to his website:  Play in School.  He videos players and there are examples on his website, including keewartson.  Sometimes he is at major events, so you may want to contact him.  It would be much cheaper than a good camera...plus, he knows what he is doing.

JH,

I am not trying to be sarcastic at all... you guys are giving me some great advice...

you all have the best advice always.. I been reading alot but dont post as much...

my baseball level is no where to talk about...

it was funny how I ask about going up to a coach at a showcase tornament and it got mixed in with my signature and the post got mixed....

Thanks for all your help thanks for the advice.

coach2709,

You were from my area WV  so you know..we are here 14 years now... we also lived in VA and in SC.. too.. you are right about the area... its a football area...like you said not a hotbed for baseball..

that is why I want to give my son a chance to play at the next level college..

He is with a showcase team now the huntington hounds , going to travel games all summer,

going to PG in july and then again in Aug..

he is showing interest in playing at the next level so i am trying to support him in anyway I can...

and to all, thanks for all that you do here on the boards...

I didnt mean to sound sarcastic or funny in anyway... I read all the advice...

thanks again to all,

Joe

jlaro,

Sometimes I take things far too literally and I have a hard time reading "tone" in a written message.  Please help a dumb guy out as I'm trying to follow along here...  You said you didn't mean to sound sarcastic or funny in any way.  So, when you said you have to buy a video camera and find a really good ballplayer and maybe hold a showcase to find one, that was not sarcasm?

yeah sure in a funny way...in a funny sense of humor...that I have...

so when the one poster said with 'email and video of a really good baseball player ..

how should I take that ......Sarcastic...?????

so I said I have to find a good camera and baseball player....

I do some photography and when people tell me 'do you know a good photo-guy.?

I tell them I will see if I can find one for them....humor funny..

Like when you go to dinner and the waitress ask 'how was everything' and I say.'

I didnt have everything....

or when you go to a bank and the teller name is there and it reads.''Robin banks'

and you tell her .' how long have you been robin Banks..??? she then call the cops...

Humor.... funny to some and not most....and stand-up is not my full time job either...

cabbagedad.... how did you take it..??

thanks,

from a dumber guy.
