I just wanted to share a little story about my son's travel team.

They just finished their first fall season on the 90 foot diamond and it has been a real thrill.

This team was created this past spring as a 12U travel team. As a brand new team playing 50/70 ball, they struggled in a very competitive ECTB league in the spring. They lost some very close games and were blown out in others. They ended up going 1 - 13.

As stated, they didn't do very well in the ECTB, but it was a great building ground for the team. The boys and their families had to deal with some upheaval in the coaching staff and roster only a few weeks into the season. Despite the problems, the players came together as a team and their friendships grew as well as their skills. With that first season under their belts, the boys started playing in ECTB, NJUSSA, NJPBT & other tournaments with more success and having a whole lot more fun.

One of the great things about this team is that the roster is primarily the same group of players that came together after a team transition in the early spring. 10 of our 11 player roster have been playing together since that transition. I see so many travel teams with major turnover (sometimes from week to week) that I am proud of these players and their parents for sticking together and allowing this collection of individual players to take the time they need to come together to form a team! I am very proud of them and very proud to be one of their coaches.

Today, on a beautiful bright and sunny day, a perfect day for baseball (It was 35 degrees Friday night as we played our semi final game) our boys came together one more time and took home the Central Jersey Amateur Baseball League 2005 Fall Championship.

Congrats Cong!

I am also currently watching our team go through some hard times but they are sticking it out. Some tough losses here and there but they have been together for a while and are fighting though the losses and really enjoying the wins.

Makes winning even sweeter because you know they stuck it out through the good times and bad times.

Congratulations and isn't that what life is all about?
