What are the rules, both written and unwritten for public school players transferring to private schools? Is is ethical for a private school to recruit a public school player? I seem to recall that there used to be a rule that if a public school player was on a varsity roster the prior year, if he transferred to a private school, he would lose a year. I think that rule was changed, but I am curious to see if there are any current rules, or if it is considered unethical for private school coaches to recruit players already enrolled in a public high school.

Players have to sit a year and play JV if they transfer after their Sophomore year starts in the Washington league. I am not sure about the MIAA.

Also once a kid starts at a high school then a coach can no longer start the conversation. I think most coaches would not try to steal a player but that being said I also think no coach is going to turn down a talented ballplayer that wants to come to him.

There are a lot of factors that have to do with transfers. Yes coaches but also other parents, players and summer coaches and friends can encourage a team to come to a certain school.

Same reasons why someone might want to go to a public instead a private school.
