Could be either. Depends on many factors - school reputation, are teammates being followed/recruited, play top level teams, make state tourney, etc....

Although depending on the area you live in, it is getting harder to get exposure simply through your high school team.  Other methods need to be explored such as showcases, college camps, and summer travel teams to guarantee maximum attention.

My son is in a small private school, but zoned to a Texas 5A high school that often gets deep in HS state playoffs.  I asked the guys in our baseball org the same question (who have had many college commits/pro players go through their org).  They said the HS doesn't matter for offers, if they have the talent, they will be seen in the showcases.  He also said for the kids to enjoy the HS experience of team and competing for something other than standing out against peers.

Same here

good summer team is import. Have seen local colleges come see player on HS team play-usu after they have seen them at camp or in Summer tourn.

your son may get diff opportunities in HS depending on what type program private has vs public. Some private schools may be boyes only and he may be competing against more for a spot. some private schools here r small and can barely field a team. First consideration for HS should be academic School that is best.

Typically exposure comes from summer teams. Public or private school doesn't matter. If your son is a top draft choice stud or plays with one pro scouts will be there watching his school games. College coaches are typically too busy in the spring to watch high school games. The parts of ones they see tend to be local.

Agree with all, but playball2011 makes an interesting point.   You may want to consider the strength of the program and how your son fits in.   Academics, etc. come first, but he may want to go where he can get more time or play varsity sooner.   Showcases and summer tournaments are where colleges see players, but high school ball is also important in their development.   We just went through this selection process and opted for the smaller private school becuse the cross-town private school's roster is loaded, and and he liked the stronger academics at the school he selected.  It ended being the right choice on both fronts.

This is a big issue.  I am a big believer that education comes first, athletics are a close second.  Generally, I think the private schools do an excellant job in prepping for college.  I know our HS did, and I am very grateful.  I believe it is a matter of the parents doing thier homework and finding out if the school is a good fit for thier kid.

I would tend to agree with the others from an exposure perspective, with the possible exception of a handful of baseball focused schools.  That said, the area it probably does matter is academics.  Better grades and better scores often equals more or better opportunity to play at the school of your choice, or to get some merit money in addition to athletic.  Mine attends a very good public school, and is headed to private school for a post graduate year after graduating high school in the spring.
