Just as the title says...

For the last few years while coaching some younger kids, we've been using the $100 Bushnell model.

Obviously it has its limitations and my unscientific studies show that as the boys throw harder, it becomes less accurate ... at least as its readings compare to what my guys are telling me they are showing at workouts/showcases where they are using high-$$ radar equipment.

I see guns from $500-$2000. I see JUGS, Stalker, SP-series, etc.

I am not a pro scout, so I don't need a lot of gadgets...but, I would like something accurate, so when people ask I can offer an honest answer.

...and before anyone says otherwise... trust me, I am _not_ all about the #s. I use it as a comparative tool only when working with our guys, with the most important criteria of course being the ability of a young man to get batters out no matter what the gun says.

If anyone has a good, used one they'd like to sell let me know, too. I'm certainly open to that.

Thank you.

Stalker gun I feel is the best gun out there.

Jugs gun reads about 3-4 mph higher than Stalker on a mid 80's fastball. Jugs has a mph spike every now and then. 81,81,82,80,79,85,82,81.... you just need to know that the spike does not need to be recorded.

I have a Stalker but I wish I had a Jugs. Confidence is HUGE. The higher the velocity the kid thinks he is throwing, the higher the confidence he has. It does not matter if the pitcher is a soft throwing lefty or a hard throwing righty. It doesnt matter if it is Jugs or Stalker. More velocity equals more confidence.

I had a pitcher this fall that was hitting 89 multiple times on my Stalker. He went home for Thanksgiving and his high school coach clocked him at 92 off a Jugs. His confidence grew because of this. I have told him MILLIONS of times the difference between the guns, but he did not care....

To sum it up:

If you get a Stalker, you will get the most accurate gun out there but you will pay for it.

If you get a Jugs, you get a gun that spikes every so often and a gun that reads fast. If you know those two aspects going in.... you should be good to go.
