Freshman leads Ravens to victory

TAMPA - It would have been understandable if Alonso starting pitcher Ray Delphey was a little nervous before facing Hillsborough Thursday night. After all, the freshman was up against one of the best lineups in the county.
If Delphey was nervous, however, he certainly didn't show it.
Delphey struck out seven and allowed just one run on three hits to lead the Ravens in their 6-3 victory over the Terriers.
"Ray's a good pitcher," Alonso coach Landy Faedo said. "If you make good pitches and you have good defense behind you, it's going to help you out."
The Alonso bats made Delphey's job a bit easier in the second inning, scoring five runs.
"Having run support means a lot," Delphey said. "Luckily, I got the five runs in the second inning. That gave me a lot of confidence."
In that inning, Alonso (13-7) opened up with consecutive base hits off of Hillsborough starter Orlando Bacon before an error on shortstop Alex Cooks allowed Carlos Rangel to score Alonso's first run. Leftfielder Grant Gajdosz followed with a three-run homer to the deepest part of centerfield to give Alonso a 4-0 lead.
"That was the first time I had ever faced Bacon. He's one of my good friends, so it felt good to hit a home run off of him," Gajdosz said.
Hillsborough (22-4) got a run back on a run-scoring single by Michael Burgess in the fifth and chased Delphey (3-1) with one out in the sixth.
Alex Panteliodis came in with two runners on and only one out for reliever Brian Menendez and got the next two batters to end the sixth. Tommy Toledo earned his first save after striking out Victor Zamora and getting Chris Ramirez to ground out to end the game.
