Good day,

I am new to this forum as well as new to middle school coaching and hoping some of you well experienced coaches can help with my sign delivery with runners on base.

Is it more effective to deliver signs to both the batter & runner in the same sequence or are they first delivered to the batter and then the base runner? If delivered separately, how do you disguise any type of steal or hit & run.

You have to do it simultaneously in my mind. There just isn't enough time not to. There is an increasing emphasis on keeping the hitter in the box when taking signs, and once the hitter steps in then the pitcher is going to take the rubber to get his signs. At this point your runner needs to be taking his lead, not getting signs from you. In my experience, we've always had a specific sign for hit and run that is distinct fromt the steal sign.
