Our HS Baseball Booster Club is running a tournament this Fall (Sat/Sun) and all the teams participating (6 teams) are Fall HS Varsity Teams.

What I am wondering is since I have read that Jr. and Sr.'s that are interested in playing post HS should send game/tournament schedules to those colleges they are interested in would it be a good ok/proper/within guidelines if I send out an email/letter to the JUCO's and local 4yr colleges in our area announcing this tournament, listing the teams that are playing and include a game schedule. If I do this do you think it would be a good idea to contact the teams that are playing and get team rosters (fall team rosters) and send this as well?

You would probably be LOVED if you did that. My son's high school hosted a tournament like that last fall, announced the tournament to local colleges, and made the rosters available to any coaches that came to the tournament (I don't think that they sent them out ahead of time). I'm sure that even if only a couple of college coaches game, you would engender a great deal of good will with all the players and coaches from the other schools.
OldBat - This is a wonderful idea. Has your coach not done it though already? You might want to check with him to save yourself some work. Even though our coach didn't actually coach in the fall, he would send the tournament schedules out to various colleges. Rosters probably aren't as important as the schools that will be there as I think coaches know the names of kids they're looking at. However, the rosters are great to have and hand out at the tournament so they can identify everyone (the known and unknown kids). Good luck. Hope B is having a wonderful fall! Smile
OBN,
I think that would be a great idea. I would check with the governing body of the Texas high school sports and see if there were any restrictions governing those types of activities. Explain you are a booster club member because I have heard that some states limit booster club involvement. As far as the NCAA goes, if any restrictions do apply, one would assume it would apply to the colleges and not the prospects.
If everything is a “go”, I would definitely send out an announcement to all coaches about the tournament and I would go one step further and even call to confirm. Know any area scouts? Call them too. On the question about rosters, I would compile a roster for my own team and ask the other (coaches/parents) to do the same, organize these rosters into a handout and make them available to the coaches prior to the game. I would not send out the rosters to the college coaches ahead of time (they will forget to bring them) but instead I would pass them out at the tournament. Does your fall team have numbered uniforms? If they don't, arrange for a type of "pin on" number and be sure and include this number on your roster.
Hope this helps,
Fungo
WOW you guys are the best,,, thanks for all the info. and quick response..............

Our Booster Club ran this same tourney last year (so must be ok with the state UIL) and this is the 2nd annual and it is named after our former Asst. Var. Baseball Coach/Varsity Golf Coach that passed away last year (heart attack) as he was returning from a golf match. We donate proceeds from the tourney to his family's educational fund so it is a nice way to give back to a coach's family as well as end the fall season with a tournament.

I will follow-up with our coach on if he is doing any of this otherwise I will proceed full steam ahead.

LAFMOM: things are going very well this fall, unlike summer/spring he is out of his slump (at this point) I will PM you with more and hope all is well there..........
