Our AD is doing a good job of trying to inject more school spirit, community involvement and connection to alumni.  One of the campaigns is to conduct alumni events for every sport.  Here is the big hurdle... The AD is being advised that our school or district insurance does not adequately cover injury that may occur with alumni competing against the current HS team.   So, those alumni events turn into a watered down event (IMO) that is all alumni, often co-ed, in something less than a spirited competition.  And so, the current student athletes are less engaged.

My question - what do your HS's do?  I ask so that, should answers dictate, I can make suggestions of value to our own school.

Our HS stopped alumni vs HS games in the early 90's and went to Alumni vs alumni. They died out a few years after that. About 15 years ago they brought them back but only one sport per year. So football, then men's basketball, then women's basketball, then baseball, then softball. So far it's worked pretty good and had pretty good participation. I think only having one in a specific sport every 5 years helps.

This year is baseball. The game will be on a Saturday and the softball team will have a scrimage before and the baseball team will have one after. They will have those bounce house things set up plus numerous concession stands and various activities. I think they have about 20 different raffles going and 1 ticket will get you in all drawings. Basically it will be like an all day baseball/softball carnival type thing lol.

Last I heard we have 56 signed up to play. It's 100 bucks a head and they get a team hat and practice jearsey. However it does help were a very small town with nothing to do on a Saturday so a large majority of the town will attend just to socialize.
