I have a player that was just drafted today. I know that if they are fortunate enough to come to terms with the signing bonus/contract with the club he will have to pass a physical and drug test to make it official. What the player and I were wondering was what does this physical usually consist of? Does it consist of an MRI or is it just range of motion tests? I was just curious if anybody has any information on the physical, thanks again.

Whatever the club needs to check - it will. Not sure if the drug test is for all, or just random.
For one guy with no injury history it may be pretty simple; for another with an injury history, the club will check everything it needs to be secure in their investment.
Depends on how much the signing bonus is. Pitchers in higher rounds will have MRI on shoulder and elbow. The higher the bonus, the more tests you have to take. I believe their will be a questionare about any previous injuries. Be honest.
As far as I am aware, most take drug urine test, however all will
definetly take further drug tests in spring training.
Congratulations!
For lower/mid guys (bonus slot, not necessarily round), it's usually just range of motion, questions, drug screen, and basic tests. Takes a few hours. For the higher guys, it's MRI/X-Rays, etc.
Isn't that what happens during the physical?
Thanks you guys for the responses, I really appreciate it. I am sorry about the misspelling of signing for the original topic. To give a little more background on the guy, he is a high school middle infielder and has had one knee surgery a couple years ago. So we were just wondering if he had would have an MRI of the knee. The team had all his medical notes and surgery notes going into the draft. Thanks again.
