I am a freshman in high school and i am in the process of baseball tryouts at my school. Anyway their is 2 kids trying out for shortstop, my friend and I. We are pretty equal in the field, and i think i am a better hitter them him, but during the tryouts he hit very well with power hitting a few home runs. I hit very well also, but not as good as my friend. Since we both play shortstop i think he will make the team in front of me but i am not sure. So my question is should i move to third base where i a guaranteed a starting position or should i stay at shortstop and have to fight for a
spot and possibly not be on the team?

larrythompson is right - coaches don't care what position you are at during tryouts. They look to see if you can play the game and if you make the team then move you somewhere.

If you can play they will keep you but let it be known you are open to playing 3B. Always take the attitude that you want to play and not just be at one position.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
